Conciencia. CO2 offsetting through native ecosystem restoration
Why We Support This Project
“One third of climate mitigation needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement can be provided by Nature-based Solutions”
“By protecting an additional 335–466 million hectares of forest, we could avoid 5.55–8.83 Gt of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2050”
“Agriculture is the largest single source of environmental degradation and the single largest driver of biodiversity loss”
How It Works
The goal of this project is to conserve, protect, and reforest 214 hectares of native forests in El Foyel (Patagonia). Through practices such as livestock exclusion, reforestation with native species, and ongoing forest monitoring, the initiative aims to restore ecological balance. The project has a carbon sequestration potential of approximately 50,000 tons.
Primary SDG
Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.Target SDG Addressed
15.2. By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally.
15.4. By 2030, ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to enhance their capacity to provide benefits that are essential for sustainable development.Type of Impact
Adaptation.Impact Measurement
GHG emissions avoided and captured.

"We are losing biodiversity and replacing it with dominance: monocultures of species that monopolize all resources. The primary drivers of this are agriculture and livestock farming"
